Lionel Messi is a very popular fantasy football player and with good reason. He is one of the best players in the world. At this World Cup he has been playing well, it just hasn’t been translating to goals for him. Not that it matters, Argentina is in fine form.

Good to see that Martín Demichelis made up for his lapse in the previous game with a goal here. It was a good night for people called Martin with Martín Palermo scoring as well. Maradona did rest a number of players such as Javier Mascherano, Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain which allowed the lesser likes to shine.

They now meet Mexico in a repeat from their Round of 16 match from 2006.  Argentina needed extra time to get by Mexico four years ago and as well as Mexico is playing, Argentina is simply at another level. You would expect them to only require 90 minutes this time round.

South America is doing very well at this World Cup and Uruguay is leading the charge. They haven’t yet allowed a goal and topped Group A to set up a game with South Korea. Nigeria just didn’t want to win and so the Asians make it through to the last 16. The two last met in the World Cup in 1990 where Uruguay won 1-0.

Ki Sung-Yueng has two assists and will need to be on the top of his game if South Korea is to make it to the quarter-finals.

In Group A, France were put out of their misery by South Africa. It was good to see the hosts win and for the second time at the World Cup, they miss out on the second round thanks to goal difference. With both Mexico and Uruguay basically assured of a berth in the second round, their match was a pretty dull affair.

Today sees action in Groups C and D. Should be quite an interesting day.
